In the first week of term, Josie, from St Johns visited us to talk about the different people keeping us safe in our community. We talked together about what number to use if we have an emergency - 111 - and the questions we would be asked if we called that number. "What is your emergency? What do you need help with?" We talked about the different types of emergencies and who would respond to them. If there was a fire we would need the fire service. If we had a robbery we would need the Police. If we hurt ourselves badly we would need the ambulance service - St Johns. One of the things Josie suggested was helpful for tamariki to know is where they live, so if there was an emergency they could share this information.
We then learnt how to stop bleeding by using different items that might be around us. Then practising how to bandage an arm.
